What are Once Upon a Charm frames made of?
Our frames are made from high-quality acetate, a durable, flexible, and beautifully lightweight material often used in premium eyewear.
Unlike plastic, acetate is plant-based and hypoallergenic. It's gentle on little faces and perfect for all-day comfort. Plus, it allows for those dreamy translucent colors and just the right touch of sparkle!
What kind of springs do Once Upon a Charm glasses have?
Our frames feature spring hinges, a must-have for little ones! These special hinges allow the arms of the glasses to gently flex outward, making them more comfortable to wear and far more forgiving during playful moments. Spring hinges help the frames stay snug without pinching. They also add extra durability for everyday twirls, tumbles, and magical misadventures.
Are your glasses lightweight and comfortable for kids?
Yes! Our frames are as light as a butterfly’s wings and crafted for all-day comfort. We use flexible, child-friendly materials designed to sit gently on small noses and little ears. Whether she’s reading, dancing, or exploring fairy gardens, her glasses stay comfy and secure.
Will these glasses fit my child’s face?
Yes, fit is part of our magic formula. Our frames come in sizes tailored specifically for children’s proportions, with flexible temples and soft bridge support. We also offer a Fit Guide and an online pupillary distance (PD) tool (during the Lens Selection process when you provide your child's Rx details) to help you choose the right size for your child.
Are your glasses adjustable?
Our frames are designed for comfort. But for typical fine-tuned adjustments, your local optician can help. The temples and nose areas can be gently fitted to make sure the glasses feel just right on your child's unique face.
What ages are your glasses designed for?
Our collection is crafted for kids between the ages of about 4 and 10. From first readers to fairy tale fanatics, we have frames that grow with her imagination. And, her face.
Why don't you offer progressive or bifocal lenses?
These specialty lenses require an in-person measurement called the segment height, which helps determine exactly where the near-vision portion of the lens should begin. Because this measurement depends on how the frames sit on your child’s face, it can’t be done accurately online.
If your child’s eye doctor recommends these lenses, we encourage you to bring our frames to a local optician. They can help ensure the lenses are made with the care and precision your child deserves.
Are Once Upon a Charm frames safety-certified for the US, Canada, and the EU?
Yes, they are! At Once Upon a Charm, your little one’s safety is our top priority. Every pair of our whimsical frames meets the highest safety and quality standards required in the United States, Canada, and the European Union. From durable, hypoallergenic materials to rigorous testing for child-friendly wear, our eyewear is crafted with care and compliance at every step. You can rest easy knowing your child’s frames are not only enchanting, but certified safe for their magical adventures, too.
Can I order prescription lenses if I live outside the U.S.?
We currently offer prescription lenses to customers in the U.S. and Canada. Our frames and charms were crafted to meet EU standards, we're hoping to ship there soon!
Do your glasses come with a case?
Yes! Every magical pair comes tucked inside a protective glasses case, along with a soft cleaning cloth and a charming little spot to store an extra set of charms. Because magical things deserve to be well cared for.
About Our Charms
For those wondering how the magic works: all about our patent-pending interchangeable charm system, safety, and collectability.
Collapsible content
What are the charms and how do they work?
Our interchangeable charms are tiny treasures that snap onto the arms of our frames and sit flush on the frame. They’re designed to let your child express herself, changing her glasses to match her mood, her story, or her dream of the day. Watch our magical how-to video to see just how easy it is to add and remove your charms, no fairy wand required!
Are the charms safe for kids?
Yes. Our charms are designed to be safe, secure, and age-appropriate for children ages 5 and up. They’re tested for everyday wear, and while we always recommend supervision for the littlest charm-lovers, they’re built to delight. Not to fall off mid-adventure.
If the glasses wearer has a younger sibling, please take care, charms are small and may pose a choking hazard. They are not intended for children under 3 and should be kept out of reach of tiny, curious hands.
Do the charms meet US safety standards?
Yes, every charm is designed with safety, sweetness, and a sprinkle of enchantment in mind.
Our interchangeable eyewear charms exceed U.S. safety standards for children's accessories. Each charm is made from high-quality materials and finished with a multi-step electroplating process that forms a smooth, durable barrier which prevents exposure to any underlying metals like lead, nickel, or cadmium that may exist deep within the core.
Even more magical? The charm itself never touches your child’s skin. Each one snaps securely into a soft rubber backing that rests gently against the frame. This rubber piece, which also exceeds US safety standards, is the only part that comes into contact with her face.
We also conduct sweat resistance testing, so every charm stays safe, sealed, and shimmering. Through play, sunshine, and fairy-tale twirls in the enchanted forest.
Will the charms fall off easily?
Not at all. Our charms are designed to stay put through storytime, recess, and even the occasional unicorn chase. They’re easy to snap on and off, but only when they are in the process of being removed from / affixed to the frames.
Can my child change the charms herself?
Yes! The charms are made for small fingers and big imaginations. She can swap them out all on her own, turning her glasses into a new story each day.
Younger wearers might need a little help from a grown-up at first, especially during the first few magical swaps. The charm attachments may feel a bit snug at the beginning, but don’t worry! They’ll become easier to pop in and out after a few tries, while still staying secure for all her everyday adventures.
Does the case include charm storage?
Yes! Because even tiny treasures deserve a magical home. Every pair of Once Upon a Charm glasses come nestled in a beautifully designed case, complete with a special little storage nook where your child can keep an extra pair of charms tucked safely inside.
Whether she’s swapping styles on the go or carrying a secret sparkle for later, this built-in treasure space lets her keep her magical favorites close at hand. And ready for whatever adventure comes next.

What if my child doesn’t want to wear glasses?
That’s where our magic comes in. Many children feel nervous or unsure about their first pair of glasses. That’s why we created eyewear that’s not only functional, but enchanting. Our frames and charms are designed to spark joy, choice, and confidence, helping kids see glasses not as something they “have to” wear, but something they love to put on.
How can I help my child feel confident in her glasses?
Let her choose the frames. Let her swap her charms. Let her be the author of her own look. The more your child feels involved in the process, the more she’ll embrace her glasses as a magical part of her story. The frames become not just something she wears, but a treasure she cherishes. For more helpful tips, explore our article “Helping Your Child Fall in Love with Her Glasses.”
What if my child is teased for wearing glasses?
It’s a worry we understand personally. But confidence is contagious. When a child feels proud of her frames, and sees them as something playful and special, she’s more likely to stand tall and smile big. You can also point out favorite storybook characters, real-life role models, or even wear your own glasses proudly to help normalize the experience. For loving advice on navigating teasing, explore our article, “Helping Your Child Handle Teasing or Bullying About Glasses.”
How do I talk to my child about needing glasses?
Start with wonder. Talk about how her glasses will help her see new worlds more clearly, both the real one and the ones in books and dreams. Make it an adventure, not a correction. And remind her that glasses don’t change who she is, they simply help her see just how amazing she’s always been. Looking for more tips on how to have this magical conversation? Explore our article How Do I Talk to My Child About Needing Glasses? on talking to your child about needing glasses.
What makes Once Upon a Charm different?

With storybook styling, interchangeable charms, and a gentle approach to vision confidence, we turn hesitation into joy and make glasses something your child can truly fall in love with.
How do I clean and care for the frames and charms?
Your child’s glasses come with a soft cloth for cleaning the lenses and frames. For charms, simply wipe gently with a damp cloth, no harsh cleaners needed. Store everything in the case when not in use, and your magical pieces will stay sparkling and strong.
